Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan-forced).
- In a food processor, with the grater attachment fitted, grate the garlic and then the onion, then the carrot.
- Fit the chopping blade, add the jalapeño and pulse a few times until everything is in fine pieces.
- Add the oats and pulse until the mixture is combined and the oats are somewhat chopped.
- Add in the black beans, spices, and egg white. Pulse a few more times until the mixture comes together but there are still small pieces of black beans.
-
Divide the mixture into 6 balls. Press each into a 1cm thick patty.
-
Line a baking tray with baking paper, add the patties and bake for 15 minutes, carefully turning halfway through.
-
Finish the burgers by frying, in a little oil, over a medium heat, for 5 minutes each side.
-
Serve on toasted hamburger buns with your favourite burger toppings. In Australia, it's not a burger if it doesn't include slices of tinned beetroot.
Notes
If using dried beans, place them in a saucepan, cover with boiling water, and then simmer for about 30 minutes.
Do not process the mixture for too long or it will become too wet.
